The mirror rule in Rhode Island

Yes. Rhode Island (R.I. Gen. Laws § 31-23-15) requires an outside mirror on the driver's side. A Wrangler's or Gladiator's factory mirrors are bolted to the doors, so pulling the doors takes them off too. Bolt a hinge or A-pillar mirror on before you drive.

“shall be equipped with a rear-view mirror on the left front door or fender, so located as to reflect a view of the highway for at least two hundred feet (200′) to the rear”

Put your mirrors back

Your factory side mirrors ride on the doors. These mount to the hinges or the A-pillar so they stay when the doors don't. Every link goes to Amazon.

Fenders and mud flaps

Every motor vehicle must have fenders covering the front wheels. Passenger vehicles with tires extending beyond the fenders or body must also have flaps or suitable splash guards. (R.I. Gen. Laws § 31-23-26)

Do you need doors at all?

We didn't find any Rhode Island statute requiring doors, but we couldn't rule one out from the official code either. The equipment rules (mirrors first) are what usually draw a stop.

The statute allows the required left mirror on the 'left front door or fender', so a fender/cowl-mounted driver-side mirror fits the text when doors are off. § 31-23-13.1 bars lifting or lowering vehicles up to 10,000 lbs GVWR more than 4 inches from factory height.
