DUCKS / TAG MAKER

You've been
ducked.

A duck on its own is a mystery. A duck with a tag is a compliment. Design yours, print eight per sheet or save one to share. Free, and nothing you type leaves your browser.

How ducking works

  1. Stock the door pocket. A brick of small rubber ducks lives in the console. Plain bricks are cheap; themed ones (glow, pirate, holiday) get more smiles.
  2. Tag them before you roll. Print a sheet, cut, punch, and band a tag to each duck with a small rubber band or a twist tie so you're not writing notes in a parking lot.
  3. Spot a Jeep you like. Clean build, filthy build, a stock Sport with a great color. There are no rules on who deserves one.
  4. Leave it where it's seen. Door handle, mirror, hood by the windshield, spare tire, or the dash if the top's off. Don't open anything that's closed.
  5. Walk away. That's the whole ritual. The owner finds a duck and a note, and the dash collection grows by one.

Printing that actually lines up

The PDF is a US letter page with eight 3.5 × 2 inch tags in a 2 × 4 grid with no gaps between them, so every cut is one straight pass on a paper trimmer. Crop marks sit in the margin at every cut line. Print at 100% / actual size (not "fit to page") on heavy cardstock, trim on the marks, then punch the dashed circle on the left end with a standard 1/4-inch hole punch.

Low on ink? The Ink-saver design prints black outlines on white and adds dashed cut lines. The dark designs look best from a laser printer or a print shop; most copy shops will run a PDF on cardstock.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Ducking FAQ.

What is Jeep ducking?
You spot a Jeep you like, leave a rubber duck on it, and walk away. That's it. Most duckers band a little tag to the duck so the owner knows it was a compliment, not a mystery. The tradition is generally traced to Ontario, Canada, in 2020 and spread fast through Jeep clubs and Facebook groups. Plenty of owners now line their dash with the ducks they've collected.
Where do you leave a duck on a Jeep?
Somewhere the owner will see it and nobody has to open anything: the door handle, the side mirror or hinge, the hood near the windshield, or the spare tire. If the top's off, the dash or grab handle works. Don't open a closed door or reach into a locked Jeep, and don't wedge the duck anywhere it could blow off at speed.
What do you write on a duck tag?
Keep it short and kind. "Nice Jeep!", what you liked about the build, and where to find you if you want the owner to say hi. A rig name or Instagram handle on the tag is how a lot of ducking friendships start. The tag maker has a write-in option if you'd rather print blank lines and add a note by hand on the spot.
What paper should I print duck tags on?
Heavy cardstock, the kind sold for business cards or postcards (around 80 to 110 lb cover). Set the printer to 100% or "actual size", not "fit to page", so each tag comes out exactly 3.5 by 2 inches. Cut along the crop marks with a paper trimmer, then punch the circle with a standard 1/4-inch hole punch.
Is the tag maker free? Do you keep what I type?
Free, no account, no email. Your tag is drawn by your own browser, and the text never leaves the page. Your last design is remembered in this browser's local storage so you can come back to it. If you've accepted analytics cookies, we count downloads (which template, PDF or PNG), never the words on the tag.

The tag designs are ours and free to print for personal ducking. Not affiliated with Jeep® or Stellantis. We earn a commission on qualifying Amazon purchases from the product links on this page. How this works.
